The Social Club of the Potomac

FOUNDED IN 1991, the Social Club of the Potomac has conquered nearly every major venue in the area. The SCP's chief purpose is to maintain our annual New Year's Eve party, but we also host and promote other select community events of interest to our circle of new and long-time friends, friends of friends, and alumni of area and regional colleges and universities.

Past SCP New Year's Eve parties have been held at the Willard Inter-Continental Hotel, Union Station, the Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City, the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the Hotel Washington Rooftop Terrace and Ballroom, and the McLean Gardens Ballroom.

Before that it was in the basement, the garage, and all throughout the Fedewa house. Finally, when our collie, Reb, couldn't take any more beer and champagne being spilled on his head, and when the wallpaper peeled off from humidity and body heat, we took a gamble and moved the venue out of the house. It's a risk we don't regret taking, and here's to all of you who've been there with us through the years!

A whole range of ages attend our events, from 20s on up. Other SCP events have been held at Carpool, the University Club, Gordon Biersch, Gaffney's, Rock Bottom Ballston, Mike Baker’s, Hotel Washington, Starboard (Dewey Beach), Thompsons Boat House, Rhodeside Grill, Music City Roadhouse, King Pepper, Tortilla Coast, Head's, Clarendon Grill, Sequoia, the Dubliner, Ozio, and the Center Cafe at Union Station.

The SCP is a 501(c)(7) non-profit, non-stock Virginia corporation and SCP event proceeds benefit charity. Our first priority is that events be fun and that ticket prices are low and affordable; but we have no paid staff and when revenue exceeds costs, we make donations to our charities.

We also support our designated charities by helping to increase attendance at their own fund-raising events through the use of SCP communications and by asking for small, optional donations at select SCP events throughout the year. Past events have benefited St. Ann's Infant and Maternity Home, DC Cares, Hands-on-DC, the University Club Foundation, the Campagna Center, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America, and Children's Hospice International. SCP e-mail communications have also benefited the Smithsonian Institution, Rachael's House, the Washington Free Clinic, the Capital Alumni Network, and the American Heart Association.
