In 2002, it will be the only place to be at the 77th Annual Running of the Virginia Gold Cup: CAN organizers expect to have at least 13 anchor tentsan increase of over 80 percent from 2001including new tents from the University of Richmond, Boston College, American University, the University of Michigan, Penn State, and the University of Notre Dame. More will be announced soon. With the Blue Ridge Mountains as a backdrop and with a bright Spring sun above, University Row played host last year to over 900 alumni and friends from over seventeen schools. A total of seven tents were anchored by the local alumni chapters of the College William and Mary, James Madison University, the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, Purdue, Wake Forest University, and the University of Texas, with participation from tent partners Arizona State University, Georgetown University, Hampden-Sydney College, NC State, University of Connecticut, University of Pittsburgh, University of Massachusetts, Penn State University, Georgia Tech, the University of Notre Dame, and other members of the Capital Alumni Network. This confederation of chalet tents was not only the largest CAN event, it was the biggest single gathering in the history of the Virginia Gold Cup. CANUR is a 100% volunteer-run effort with no profit motive to feed and proceeds flow through to the non-profit alumni groups serving as anchors. See http://www.universityrow.org for more information.
