TICKETS to our grand event at the historic Renaissance Mayflower Hotel are now on sale for $115. We blew through our first block quickly, though, so don't wait because the price will soon rise to $130 once this block is full and we will not be selling tickets at the door. See http://www.capitalcitycountdown.com for more.
Nicknamed "the second best address in Washington" by President Truman, the Mayflower is an incomparable venue of charm and cachetvery much in the tradition of our annual tour of Washington's finest venues.
This year we have expanded our circle: Joining Washington's countdown to 2004 is the University Club's young members committee, the Proctor Dougherty Society, along with other SCP partner groups.
Live music will be provided by the Mustangs. Fronted by lead vocalists, David Akers, Skip Mahoney, and the soul diva of the Baltimore-Washington area, Barbara Malone, the Mustangs play it all, raw and real. The vocal corps is backed by three horns and a tight rhythm section pumping out rock, disco, R & B, funk, swing, and sweet soul music—mixed to keep the dance floor hopping! Click here to hear a medley of Mustangs covers.
Rooms in our block of suites and sleeping rooms are available at special rates, starting at $159. See our hotel page for details.
This is a black tie preferred event. Open bar (premium well brands). Passed hors d'oeuvres. Doors will open at 9:00pm.
We've done it all before and we're good at it. That's why when everyone cancelled in 1999 we continued along and had a great party. No lines at the bar or at Will Call. No coat check fights. No queues at bathrooms designed to accommodate hundreds of people instead of thousands. And this is a world-class venue, so you won't find yourself eating potato chips or drinking rot gutand you won't suffer through any clueless bartenders.
We have no profit motive to feed, so we are able to keep
ticket prices much lower than their market value. Our goal is just to get
the best of Washington together for a good time; revenue in excess of
costs goes to charity.

Other events have been held at the University Club, Carpool, Rock Bottom Ballston, Mike Bakers, Gaffney's, Hotel Washington, Starboard (Dewey Beach), Thompsons Boat House, Gordon Biersch, Rhodeside Grill, Tortilla Coast, Clarendon Grill, Sequoia, the Dubliner, Ozio, and the Center Cafe at Union Station.
